Photo Tip of the Week: Tip for Better Black & White Photos

A good trick to achieve great black & white photos that stand out is to keep in mind that less is more!

What we mean by that is when you are shooting a black & white photo (or you are choosing to transform a color photo into black & white), try to keep a strong focus on your subject and have as few distractions as possible.

Black & white photos are typically moodier and more mysterious than color photos. The photo can be confusing to the viewer if there are too many objects and clutter. Set the focus firmly on your subject to set a strong mood.

Take a look at this urban photo. This is a great color photo that is full of life and energy!

Now take a look at the photo when we transform it to black & white. It just doesn’t make any sense and is very confusing, right?

Here’s another urban color photo.

So keep it simple and have a strong focus when doing black & white photography. You will get better results.

Remember, less is more!
